Description
The only McLaren upgraded front heat exchangers, designed with thick 76 mm High Density cores for a 34% increase in Internal Volume. The aircraft-grade, full aluminum construction, maximizes thermal transfer that results in a 22% drop in coolant temperature for your water intercoolers. Increased air density yields more power, which is why these are an ideal upgrade for those with upgraded intercoolers. These are the same heat exchangers found on our ABSOLUTE build packages.
INTERCOOLER CIRCUIT DESIGN
The McLaren Intercooler Coolant (Low-Temp) Circuit consists of two air-to-water intercoolers and two water-to-air front heat exchangers, not including the clutch cooler on the transmission (see image above). The very first product we brought to the McLaren market was our line of ABSOLUTE – McLaren Racing Intercoolers. We chose to focus on the intercoolers initially since they directly contribute to increased horsepower and should be paired with every ECU tune. Since the intercoolers are air-to-water intercoolers, they transfer charged hot air temps from your turbocharger to the low-temp water coolant, thus cooling the intake charge and creating denser air with more oxygen particles. This is why upgraded intercoolers always make more power on highly boosted applications.
FRONT HEAT EXCHANGER FUNCTION
Since the intercoolers (and clutch) are constantly pumping heat into the low temp coolant circuit, what is removing the heat from this circuit? The answer is the two large front heat exchangers that can found behind the front bumper of every McLaren. This is why McLarens tend to heat-soak when sitting at stop lights and idling for long periods of time, lack of air flow over the front heat exchangers (see image above).
This means the front heat exchangers sole purpose is to remove heat from the low temp circuit, therefore increasing the water intercooler delta (T) temperature between the charged air and the coolant circuit. The higher the Delta T, the more efficiently your water intercoolers will cool the intake charge. Since colder intake air is more dense, it has more oxygen particles to make more power!
DESIGN IMPROVEMENTS
Heat exchangers are fairly simple products, consisting only of the intercooler core and end tanks. That being said, we were able to increase the stock heat exchanger core from 2 inch (50 mm) to 3 inch (76 mm) to maximize the internal volume for coolant. This is the largest size core you can fit without any cutting to the ductwork.
According to our calculations, the internal volume has increased a staggering 34% over OEM. The additional volume, in addition to the higher density core, will yield a 22% increase in Delta T. Meaning, cooler coolant temps and even cooler intake air charge temps for maximum power.
For reliability, we upgraded the stock plastic end tanks that are known to rupture at the seams with a fully aluminum, precision TIG welded unit.
Due to the high quality of materials used and workmanship, we are confident enough to offer a Lifetime Warranty.
WRAP-UP
Our upgraded ABSOLUTE – McLaren Racing Front Heat Exchangers are for those who are looking for the ultimate in McLaren intercooler cooling capabilities. Deter heat-soak for longer and increase engine power with even denser air than was previously possible. These are the perfect compliment to our ABSOLUTE – McLaren Racing Intercoolers.
